Aja Washington is a New Jersey native who has considered herself an artist from an early age. She transitioned from crayola on walls to pencil-and-paper realism in her pre-teen years, to painting in high school and beyond. She dabbled in sculpture throughout this time. Now due for another transition, Washington is embracing digital technology in her work. Current and future pieces will be an amalgamation of techniques she's learned from the crayola days until now. Portraiture is used as a means of storytelling, and non-objective works serve to showcase the media used as well as formal ideas of line, space, and color theory. Music and the written word are also used as tools and/ or media to inspire and serve as a background. Aja creates from her studio in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
